Ascott - Portfolio 2013 Recount Writing

1st time in the swimming pool.

Today was my first time in the swimming pool.  While I was walking towards the tent I saw water dripping like I was in the street walking on cold pouring rain.  I walked up the stairs it was like I was walking on the plank falling to the water with sharks.  As soon as I stepped in the water it was warm like a blanket covered me.

When I swam to the other end it felt like I was doing snow angels on warm snow.  First we had to do streamline Mrs Tui called my number I took a deep breath then swam under the water I kicked my legs as fast as I could. Next we had to freestyle I felt like I was Michael Phelps I was alright but not good enough.

So Mrs tui splitted us to group of three groups.  I was groups with Catherine and Tevita Fohe.  Catherine was our leader she teaches us how to do freestyle properly.  After we had 2 minutes free play I was practicing my freestyle.  When Mrs Tui said ” to hop out of the pool ” I ran  quickly up the stairs and dressed back on my uniform.

My father rocks my world.  My father has black curly hair, brown eyes and a gold tooth.  My father is a bit tall and he usually wears a t-shirt with track pants. He is a bit roundish but just the way I like it.

My father is a smart person and a supporting father because he makes sure I have everything I need for school.  My father is a man of his word when he promises me he would buy me new things he would do it the following week.

My father is a fit and healthy man he runs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on the Mountain or at the block on his street.  My father is a hard worker because he provides food for my family and he pays the bills.  My father is a bad cooker because sometimes he cooks the meat undercook or it gets burnt.

Ascott Portfolio 2013 Maths level 3 Addition and Subtraction

Show how you solve these number problems.
I am able to solve addition and subtraction using place values and compatible numbers to solve a level 3 work sheet.

1.  Maraea is saving to buy a cat.  In 3 weeks she has saved $9, $56 and $72.
Show how to work out how much she has saved altogether.
$9 + $6 + $2= $17  $50 + $70= 120  $17 + 120= $137
I can see you were using the place value - how about compatible numbers
72 + 8 (from the 9) = 80
56 + 1 (left from 9) = 57
80 + 20 + 37 = 137
Can you try and do the other do this way and then post

2.  Tom saves his money each month to buy a dog.  In 4 months he has saved $36, $78, $203, and $123.  Show how to work out how much he has saved altogether.
I take one out of the 8 and add it to the 6 which equals 7.
7 + 123 ( I took out the 7 out of the 37 ) = 130.
7 + 203 ( I took out the 7 out of the 77 remember I took 1 out of the 8 ) = 210
70 + 30 = 100
130 + 210 + 100 = 440

3.   Te Ao is saving to buy a horse.  So far she has saved $17, $160, $72, and $148.  Show how to work out how much she has saved altogether.
$7 + $2 + $8= $17   $10 + $60 + $70 + $40= $180   $100 + $100= $200
$17 + $180 + $200= $397

4.  Petelo has $ 147 as a present.  He spent $78 at the shop.  How much has he got left?
$100 - $70= $30   $30 - $8= $22
$22 + $7 + $40= $69

Ascott Portfolio 2013 Multiplication level 3

1.    When Jasmine makes lemonade she uses 6 lemons for every litre of water. How many lemons does she need for
i)     2 litres of water?  6 x 2=12
ii)    3 litres of water?  6 x 3=18
iii)   10 litres of water? 6 x 10=60

2.   Devinda is doing some baking. When he uses his mum's recipe he can make 8 muffins. When he doubles the recipe he gets 16 muffins. How many lots of the recipe does he need to make

i)     24 muffins?  8 x 3=24
ii)    32 muffins?  8 x 4=32
iii)   56 muffins? 8 x 7=56

Ascott Portfolio 2013 Maths level 3 fraction

✔ LEVEL 3 FRACTION

I am learning to solve fractions using halving and doubling.

This task is about finding fractions of a given number.

A farmer is selling some of his animals.
1.  The farmer sells ¼ of his 72 cows.  Show how to work out how many cows he sess.
18 x 2= 36   or   Half of 72 = 36  Half of 36 = 18
18 x 4=72 -
Great Ascott!  You used your knowledge of double to work this out.
Thank you Mrs Tui I’ll keep up the good work.

2. He sells ⅓ of his 45 pigs.  Show how to work out how many pigs he sees.
15 x 3 = 45 or 45 divide 3 = 15
Ascot I am not sure you understand.  You have to share 45 into 3 equal groups.

3.   He sells ⅙ of his 84 sheep.  Show how to work out how many sheep he sells.
84 divide 6 = 14 or 14 x 6 = 84
- How do you know to go 14 x 2?  The idea is to divide 84 into 6 groups -  80 divide by 6 =  10 and remainder of 20 + 4 = 24 divide by 6 = 4
Therefore 10 + 4 = 14.  that is why you have the fourteen.

You need to practise the fraction more.
